Dr. Annie Koshi, Principal of St. Mary’s School, did her schooling from All Saints School, Nainital and her graduation and post-graduation in English (Hons) from Lady Sri Ram College, Delhi. She completed her B.Ed. at CIE (Delhi) and has done her M.A. in Educational Management from Oxford Brookes, U.K. She was specially trained in Testing and Evaluation as part of the CBSE ELT Project at the College of St. Mark and St. John, Plymouth, UK. Dr. Koshi completed her Ph.D from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), New Delhi. The topic of her doctoral thesis was “The Discourse of Education: Re-Examining the Concept of Inclusion via a Study of the Narratives of School Children and the Indian State”.

Dr. Koshi actively advocates the cause of the disabled and has worked hard to create an inclusive school where children who might have been challenged physically, mentally, emotionally and/or financially study together with the children belonging to the so-called “mainstream” — a school where “difference” is not only accepted but rather celebrated. She has been instrumental in bringing in legislation to change the methods of assessment for the visually challenged in the Board Examinations as well as legislation that restrains the use of Government school teachers for out-of-school-work like election duty and census.

Dr. Koshi is a member of the State Advisory Council constituted by the NCT of Delhi to advise the government on implementation of the provisions of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act. She is ‘Trustee’ of Pratham Delhi Education Initiative as well as a member of the Departmental Advisory Board, Department of Education of Groups with Special Needs, NCERT.

She has received the prestigious National Award for Teachers, conferred by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, in the year 2004. The National Literacy Mission has felicitated her for her leadership qualities, and she has been awarded the National Child Care Award, India Development Education Award and the Freelance Journalists & Writers’ Association Award for her contributions in the field of education.

Dr. Koshi’s interests include theatre, dance, art and music. She is an avid reader, and is fond of adventure sports such as trekking, river rafting & bungee jumping, the last of which she, sadly, doesn’t do anymore.
